Eric Proulx! Born Sept. 1,1937 in Clampett, Washington The Christo of Sound first came to the attention of the Fabulous Show Business Giants in 1992. "We were on tour and listening to the Sounscapes of Agra album. It never left the tape deck", asserts Scott Henderson. "Obviously we wondered why he'd mispelled soundscapes. You know: why'd he left out the D in the word? Clever Eric! It wasn't until our road manager Frank Pother pointed out the entire album was in a drop D tuning that most of us cottoned on." Such obscurantism was a light at the end of the tunnel for the obtuse friendly Giants. "We met under somewhat odd circumstances," Scott says. "Our then road manager Ian Chartier had arranged to meet one of Ray Davies' people, as Ray was anxious to find out who we were as he wanted to make a special appearance at a potentially popular band's show. Luckily for us, the ex-Kinks reps were quite tardy. While Ian sat in whichever bar he was in, Eric Proulx came along and began turning the entire room into a giant bass drum. Apparently this was for a Mr. Pibb commercial where it would be hit by 1000 monkeys." "Anyhow, Davies' handlers never did show and Ian introduced himself as a huge fan. Eric HAD heard of us and so Ian invited him upstairs where we were recording the Let's Talk With the Dead album. That's basically how we got him to construct the 'sounscape' on the 'souncheck'," Scott chuckled. "I could tell you how he tried to insert a C melody saxophone into John Wright, but we'll save that for another time," he ended. |
