Beez! Born September 11,1962 in Graz, Austria The man the astronauts listen to in space. Beez (born David S. Lang) is without a doubt the most listened to musician on the planet. This top rank session stalwart has performed on literally tens of thousands of recording sessions since the age of 12. His first one was Captain Beefheart's Lick My Decals Off, You. Not a bad way to get a fellow's career into gear! Since then, Beez has guested on so many great albums, you'd think he was lying. A quick glimpse at his resume will most likely stagger many. To list less than two percent of the double platinum's alone: Jerry Vale's Big Fish In A Small Pond, The Andrew Pearson Trio Live At Hi's Steakhouse, The Who's Quadrophenia '96, Uriah Heep's Penultimatum. Oh, why go on and on? "When I came to Hollywood in spring '74 I rode into town on my thumb. I made the rounds of all the top studios and was turned down everywhere I went. But I never got discouraged. For this I thank my life long devotion to the great Sage Moe Howard and his published works. One day, just as I had worn out my last millimeter of shoe leather, I lucked out. I'd just been turned away, again, from Cottonwool studios. As I trudged a little dejectedly away, the alley door opened and someone yelled after me to wait. I guess it was my lucky day; a top-flight player had just been kidnapped and had to cancel his session. When the guy asked me if I could play the comb and tissue paper, well, I told a white lie and said yes. Now, normally I wouldn't have done this, but I can recognize a break when I see one! So, in I went. And that's how I did it." Though his dreams of ever becoming the world's greatest timpanist ended abruptly that day, from then on Beez was regarded by everybody as the greatest comb and tissue player. Maybe of all time! Next time you hear the comb on a car commercial, orchestral piece or even a Rap Album you can just bet it will be Beez! |
